The Only Possible Solution by Fons Burger

The Only Possible Solution

The Only Possible Solution does not start with all the problems we talk about every day. Climate change, war, poverty, migration, to name just a few. The Only Possible Solution jumps a hundred years ahead and asks a simple question: What does a human being in the year 2125 really need? And how can we make sure those basic needs will still be there?

Looking back at the world of today, it becomes clear what needs to change now. But above all, it becomes clear that all these problems are interconnected and that systemic change is needed to create a safe and happy future.

About the content

System change

The book is divided into seven chapters dealing with basic human needs. Chapter 1: A human being needs food. Food is not only about agriculture, but also about the quality of the earth. And about a number of other major problems, such as the availability of water and biodiversity. And if you zoom out further, it is also connected to our health, poverty in the world, the way our trade system works and climate change. Already in chapter 1, it becomes clear how difficult it is to separate one subject from the rest.

The same applies to the other basic needs. Chapter 2 is about water, followed by housing, education, healthcare, etc. etc. In this way, The Only Possible Solution covers 26 subjects that together address the problems of our time.

For each subject, The Only Possible Solution offers a solution. Developed by people who specialize in one of these fields: scientists, economists, farmers, entrepreneurs, philosophers and activists. Not as a collection of theories, but mainly to show that the solutions are already there. Some are already being applied somewhere in the world, on a small scale or on a large one. But all of them require far-reaching change. A change of the system.

Because a solution to one problem always has consequences for another.

The Only Possible Solution therefore does not look for one miracle cure for the world’s problems, but for solutions that bring everything together.
